Niantic and Marvel Entertainment at the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at D23 Expo 2022, announced their collaboration to work on an Augmented Reality (AR)-based mobile game called Pokemon Go, based on the Marvel superhero characters.
Marvel World of Heroes, the title of this game, is planned to be launched globally in 2023.
Through a statement on its official website, quoted on Sunday (11/9/2022), Niantic revealed that in this game, players will be able to create and become their own superhero.
Neil Melville, Lead Game Designer at Marvel World of Heroes said in a statement that this game will use an avatar system.
Thus, it will provide flexibility for players to “express different body types, gender expressions, and clothing customization.”
“I can’t wait to see what kind of character the players will create on their journey to becoming famous local heroes,” said Melville.
In addition, Lyza Faylona, Senior Producer for this game also revealed, they will become an MMORPG game. “I love MMORPGs, so I was really excited to bring them to life,” said Faylonna.
Melville also mentioned, they will not only present one reality version of the Marvel Universe, but will allow players to travel to several alternative realities in the Marvel Multiverse.
“We are not content with presenting a single version of the Marvel Universe reality, and will let you travel to multiple alternate realities in the Marvel Multiverse to engage with different characters and stories in the same location.”
